Tanganyika, today called Tanzania, is an East African nation located to the south of Kenya. A great number of Hemingway’s writings revolve around his travels and safari experiences in Tanganyika (Mt. Kilimanjaro) and Kenya. Tanganyika/Tanzania lies between the Indian Ocean and the largest African great lakes: Lake Victoria, Lake Malawi and Lake Tanganyika. Mt. Kilimanjaro in northern Tanganyika/Tanzania is among the many places Hemingway went on safari. Tanganyika is now divided into Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania.
